Choral Society to represent the Garden City in State Competition

TCS Members prepare for State Eisteddfod.
Back Row: Cody Gray, Anthea Jones, Sylvia Hedges, Front Row: Kelly Watts, Ellie Todd, Richard Chiverrell.

The society’s participation in the Queensland Eisteddfod has been a long-standing tradition for over 75 years. This year the Toowoomba Choral Society Choir, Contemporary Choral and Youth Choir will complete against other choirs of exceptional standard, hoping to make our city proud. The society’s members will also compete in many solo, duet, and ensemble vocal sections.

The Queensland Eisteddfod is a wonderful opportunity for our choirs to come together and build comradery between our members, but also gives the society an avenue to showcase our choral talents to the wider musical community in Queensland’. All our choirs have been working diligently in rehearsals over the past few months, and we eagerly await to see who will take home the ‘Open Grand Champion Choir’ & ‘Youth Championship’ trophies this year.’, TCS Choir Conductor Elizabeth Egan said.

Anthea Jones, (pictured) has been singing with the TCS Youth Choir and competing in Eisteddfodau for many years. ‘I love singing with the Toowoomba Choral Society. I’ve developed many close friends over the years, it’s like family. Coming to choir rehearsals is the highlight of my week!’, Anthea said.

The annual Choral Showcase, gives one last opportunity for the Choral Society’s Choirs to perform their competition pieces before competing in the Queensland Eisteddfod. This concert will be held on Saturday 24th March at 5pm at the TACAPS Millennium Centre Hall. Ticket prices are Adult $20, Secondary Student $10, Primary Student $5 & Children under 5yrs FREE.
